Coordination Council of Belarusian opposition to immediately announce new presidential election - Tikhanovskaya

MINSK. Aug 19 (Interfax) - Former Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has urged leaders of European countries to deny recognition to the results of the Belarusian presidential election and has pledged to immediately start a new campaign involving international observers.

"I am urging you to deny recognition to this rigged election. Lukashenko has completely lost his legitimacy in the eyes of our people and the entire world. I have initiated the establishment of the National Coordination Council of Belarus for the purpose of facilitating peaceful transition of power," Tikhanovskaya said in a video address posted on the Strana dlya zhizni (Country for Life) Telegram channel.

In her words, the Council "will lead the process of peaceful power transition through dialogue. It will immediately announce a new fair and democratic presidential election with the participation of international observers."
