Russian military medics to help Kazakhstan combat coronavirus
MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax) - A team of Russian military doctors has embarked on a mission to Kazakhstan to help the nation fight coronavirus, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"On August 4, an airplane of the military transport aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces took off from Chkalovsky Airport (Moscow region) and headed to the Republic of Kazakhstan carrying Russian military doctors tasked with providing practical and methodological assistance to Kazakh military doctors in the fight against the coronavirus infection," the Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
The Russian medics "will provide assistance to two military hospitals located in Nur-Sultan and Almaty," the ministry said.
The medical units include "military intensivists, infectious disease specialists, and general practitioners," the ministry said, adding that they will provide consultations and practical assistance in diagnosing and treating patients with the novel coronavirus infection.
The Russian military transport aviation airplane will also bring medical supplies and protective gear to Kazakhstan, it said.
Kazakhstan earlier received five military transport airplanes bringing along professionals from Russia's Federal Medical-Biological Agency, who are now helping manage the coronavirus outbreak in Baikonur.
Prior to this, Russia sent military medics and virologists to help combat coronavirus in foreign countries such as Italy, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Armenia.
