Montenegro reopening borders to Russians

ROME. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Russia has been included in the list of countries whose citizens can enter Montenegro without any additional conditions related to the coronavirus pandemic, Montenegrin radio and TV broadcaster RTCG reported on Tuesday.

Montenegro's tourism industry taskforce put forward this proposal at a meeting of the country's National Coordinating Body for Infectious Diseases, RTCG said.

Azerbaijan has been included on the revised "green" list on an equal footing with Russia.

Montenegro now has "green" and "yellow" lists for foreigners due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The former includes 11 European Union countries, as well as Norway and Switzerland, tourists from which can enter the country without restrictions. The yellow list includes Balkan neighbors Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as Israel, Canada and Singapore, tourists from which must present a negative test for Covid-19 at the border that was done no more than 48 hours prior to arrival.

The pandemic has been a major blow to Montenegro's tourism industry. Montenegro's borders with most countries are still closed, and due to the lack of international tourists half of the country's hotels also remain shuttered.

This season there are 90% fewer tourists in Montenegro, a country where many people depend completely on tourism for their livelihood.
