Number of Covid-19 cases in Central Asia exceeds 25,000, recovery rate at over 16,400
MOSCOW. June 11 (Interfax) - A total of 496 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in countries of Central Asia in the past 24 hours, bringing the region's total case count to 25,145 as of Thursday morning, the health authorities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan said.
The overall number of recoveries has reached 16,454 after another 593 people were discharged from hospitals in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Central Asia's Covid-19 death toll rose to 160 in the past 24 hours, after six Covid-19 patients died in Kazakhstan, and one in Uzbekistan.
Medics in Kazakhstan diagnosed another 239 people with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 13,558, the country's interdepartmental commission on preventing the spread of Covid-19 said. The daily increase stood at 1.8%.
According to the commission, on June 10 Kazakhstan identified another 393 asymptomatic coronavirus cases, which are not included in the country's overall coronavirus data. A total of 2,529 patients without any clinical symptoms of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the country since June 3, it said.
Another six coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in Kazakhstan, bringing the country's Covid-19 death toll to 67. A total of 8,345 patients have already recovered from Covid-19 in Kazakhstan (+330 people in the past 24 hours).
Thirty-six new Covid-19 cases were identified in the past 24 hours in Kyrgyzstan, which currently has 2,129 confirmed cases of the coronavirus infection, Kyrgyz Deputy Health Minister Nurbolot Usenbayev said at a press briefing on Thursday. The tally increased 1.72% in the past 24 hours.
The new coronavirus cases include ten healthcare workers, he said. A total of 419 healthcare workers in Kyrgyzstan have contracted Covid-19 since the epidemic began. Of them, 312 have already recovered.
Fifty-eight people were discharged from hospitals upon recovery in the past day, the ministry said. A total of 473 people remain in hospitals, including 11 in critical condition, two in intensive care. A total of 1,630 people have already recovered from the novel coronavirus in Kyrgyzstan. Its Covid-19 death toll remains unchanged at 26 as no new cases were reported in the past 24 hours.
Medics in Uzbekistan identified 148 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 4,695, the country's Health Ministry said on Thursday. This figure rose 3.25% in the past 24 hours. Another 73 people recovered from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours in Uzbekistan, where the overall number of such recoveries has now reached 3,532, the ministry said.
Uzbekistan's Covid-19 death toll has reached 19 after another coronavirus-related death was reported on Wednesday - a 31-year-old resident of Samarkand, who arrived on a charter flight from St. Petersburg.
Approximately 47,000 people are currently under quarantine, the ministry said. Eight patients are in critical condition, one is in extremely critical condition.
Seventy-three new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Tajikistan in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total case count to 4,763, the press center of the Tajik Health Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday evening. The tally rose 1.56% in the past 24 hours.
It became known on Wednesday that 1,700 healthcare workers, among others, had contracted Covid-19 because of a shortage of personal protective equipment.
The country's Covid-19 death toll remains unchanged at 48 (no new coronavirus-related deaths recorded in the past 24 hours), the ministry said. A total of 2,947 patients earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have already recovered (+132 in the past 24 hours).
According to official reports, there are no confirmed Covid-19 cases in Turkmenistan.
