Putin tasks Rosprirodnadzor with evaluating conditions of Norilsk-type facilities, initiating checks if necessary

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has tasked the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (Rosprirodnadzor) with evaluating the conditions of Norilsk-type facilities and initiating checks in collaboration with the Emergency Situations Ministry and law enforcement agencies, if necessary.

"Every measure aimed at restoring biodiversity and environmental conditions must be controlled by Rosprirodnadzor specialists. Also, I am asking Rosprirodnadzor to carry out a thorough analysis of the conditions of similar facilities throughout the country. Wherever necessary, checks should be organized, in particular, in collaboration with Emergency Situations Ministry specialists and law enforcement agencies," Putin said during a videoconference with environmentalists on Friday.

Additionally, the president ordered that amendments to Russian laws be prepared in order to prevent Norilsk-type accidents from happening again. "Finally, I am asking the government and the parliament to finalize work on essential amendments to nature conservancy laws, which will prevent such situations from happening in the future. This should be done rapidly, before the end of the current parliamentary session," Putin said.
