Fuel collected in Norilsk emergency zone to be put into storage, taken away in winter - HQ

KRASNOYARSK. June 5 (Interfax) - The fuel which spilled from a depressurized tank at Norilsk Heat and Power Plant No. 3 will be collected, stored in containers, and eventually taken away, spokesperson for the emergency mitigation headquarters Pavel Vinakov told Interfax.

"Nothing has been burned, and nothing will be burned. The headquarters has decided against burning. The fuel is being placed into storage; sorbents are being used in some places, and pumps are being used in others. Tanks with a capacity of 250 cubic meters are on their way to the location: the liquid will be stored there and taken away later, most probably, in the winter," Vinakov said.

He said that the collected fuel will be stored on site for now.

According to the latest update from the headquarters, the fuel spill has been contained, and more than 200 tonnes of fuel and lubricants have been collected.

The Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (Rosprirodnadoz) and the authorities of the Krasnoyarsk Territory said earlier that the collected fuel won't be burned in the Arctic conditions.
