Russia reports almost 8,540 new Covid-19 cases, 178 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. June 3 (Interfax) - Russia reported almost 8,540 new Covid-19 cases and 178 deaths in the past 24 hours, the operative headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 8,536 coronavirus cases were confirmed in 84 regions of Russia, including 3,287 active asymptomatic cases (38.5%)," the headquarters said.

The cumulative number of coronavirus cases has reached 432,277 in Russia, including 5,215 deaths and 195,957 recoveries (8,972 in the past 24 hours). The number of active cases (the total number of cases excluding all recoveries and all deaths) currently stands at 231,105. Russia ranks third in the global coronavirus table, Brazil ranks second (555,300 cases total, +28,900 in the past 24 hours), and the United States ranks first (1.83 million total cases, +20,800 in the past 24 hours).

According to the operative headquarters, Moscow reported 1,842 new Covid-19 cases, 61 deaths and 3,385 recoveries over the past day. This is the lowest daily growth in new cases since April 17.

The effective reproductive number (Rt) stays above 1.0 both in Moscow and in Russia as a whole. The number stood at 1.01 in Moscow and 1.04 in Russia on Wednesday (1.05 in regions excluding Moscow). It is calculated on the basis of official information from the operative headquarters and the formula provided by Rospotrebnadzor guidelines 3.1.0178-20 dated May 8, 2020.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, Russia has performed over 11.4 million coronavirus tests, including 274,000 in the past 24 hours. Some 303,000 remain under medical observation. The agency said that Russia ranked the world's second in terms of coronavirus test numbers.
