New U.S. sanctions imposed on Nord Stream 2 will not alter Russia's plans for pipeline - Kremlin

MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - The Kremlin has received "extremely negatively" the reports of plans by the United States to impose new sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project; however, they will not have any effect on the construction plans of the project.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that such actions would be another manifestation of unfair competition on the part of the United States.

"First of all, the plans for Nord Stream 2 have not changed. Second of all, our attitude to any sanctions is well known - it is extremely negative," Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

"We believe that such intentions are nothing more than a manifestation of unfair competition and actions that are contrary to international law," the spokesman concluded.
