Russia records some 8,900 new Covid-19 cases (+3.2%), 91 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ
MOSCOW. May 18 (Interfax) - There is a downward trend in the daily growth of coronavirus cases in Russia; the indicator dropped below 9,000, to the lowest level of the past two weeks, on Monday morning, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a daily report.
"Over the past day, 8,926 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in 81 regions of Russia, including 3,577 active asymptomatic cases (40.1%)," the headquarters said on Monday
The daily growth rate dropped to the all-time low, +3.17%.
Back on May 11, Russia recorded 11,600 new coronavirus cases, which was the national all-time high. The indicator dropped to 9,900 on May 12-14 and, following a minor increase, dipped to 9,200, the minimum since May 2. There was a spike to 9,700 cases on Sunday, and a new decline on Monday.
By now, Russia has recorded a total of 290,678 cases (+3.2%), the headquarters said. Russia ranks second in the global coronavirus table (according to the Johns Hopkins University), following the absolute leader, the United States (1.48 million cases, +18,900 over the day). The UK ranks third (244,200, + 3,500 over the day). Brazil is rapidly catching up with the UK with 241,000 confirmed diagnoses (7,500 per day).
Moscow recorded 3,238 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total rate to 146,062.
The daily number of coronavirus-related deaths have been less than 100 for two days. There were 91 deaths on Monday, including 77 in Moscow, and 94 on Sunday. There was a spike in the daily mortality rate to the record 119 on May 16. A total of 2,722 coronavirus patients have died in Russia by now.
The recovery rate went up by 2,836 patients, including 1,423 in Moscow, over the past day to the total of 70,209.
