Russian Foreign Ministry to demand that Western media retract info about Covid-19 mortality in Russia
MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry will send letters to the Financial Times and New York Times newspapers to demand their retraction of publications regarding the number of Covid-19 deaths in Russia, the ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.
"Letters have been prepared to the FT and NYT editorial offices demanding a retraction of the published disinformation," she told reporters.
The letters "will be handed to the editors-in-chief through our Embassies in the United States and Britain," Zakharova said.
"We have also addressed a similar appeal to OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] Representative for Freedom of the Media [Harlem] Desir and UNESCO Director-General [Audrey] Azoulay. We will send similar material to the UN Secretariat as an example of the kind of infodemic UN Secretary General [Antonio] Guterres has urged the world to fight," Zakharova said.
