Russia detects nearly 10,700 new coronavirus cases, 98 deaths, more than 2,800 recoveries in past 24 hours - HQ
MOSCOW. May 8 (Interfax) - The daily growth in Covid-19 cases in Russia has decreased to almost 10,700, while the daily number of deaths has again neared 100, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.
"Over the past day, 10,699 Covid-19 diagnoses were confirmed in 83 regions of Russia, including 5,232 active asymptomatic cases (48.9%)," the statement said.
On May 7, Russia reported 11,231 new coronavirus cases. The daily increase in coronavirus cases passed the 10,000 threshold on May 3 and has not dropped below it since then. Nevertheless, the ratio of growth to the total number of cases has been steadily on decline since May 3 (from 8.6% to 6.0% now), and the number of performed coronavirus tests stays high (from 160,000 to 220,000 coronavirus tests per day). According to Rospotrebnadzor, almost 5 million coronavirus tests were performed in Russia as of Friday morning.
By now, a total of 187,859 coronavirus cases have been detected in 85 regions of Russia (+6.0%), the headquarters said.
There are 5,846 new coronavirus cases in Moscow, and the cumulative number of cases has reached 98,522.
A total of 98 coronavirus patients died across Russia in the past 24 hours, including 51 in Moscow. The national death toll has risen to 1,723.
Hospitals discharged 2,805 recovered coronavirus patients over the past day, including 1,032 in Moscow. The total recovery rate has reached 26,608.
