Central Asia records 370 new Covid-19 cases, four deaths in past 24 hours, overall number of cases reaches 8,049

MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - Countries of Central Asia have reported 370 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the region's tally to 8,049.

A total of 187 people have been discharged from hospitals upon recovery from Covid-19. The overall number of such recoveries currently stands at 3,601.

Another four patients earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have died in the past 24 hours, bringing Central Asia's coronavirus death toll to 60. The latest fatal cases include three in Tajikistan and one in Kazakhstan, these countries' relevant agencies said.

Kazakhstan has recorded seven new Covid-19 cases, the country's coronavirus response headquarters said on Thursday.

"Another seven cases of the coronavirus infection have been registered, including one in Shymkent, one in the Zhambyl region, three in the West Kazakhstan region, one in the Kostanay region, and one in the Turkistan region," it said.

Thus, the nationwide tally currently stands at 4,509. A total of 1,408 people have already recovered from Covid-19, and another 30 have died.

Medics in Kyrgyzstan have confirmed 24 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 895, the country's Deputy Health Minister Nurbolot Usenbayev said at a press briefing on Thursday.

Kyrgyzstan's Covid-19 death toll stands at 12 on May 7 (no new coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours), and 637 people have already recovered from the disease, he said.

"Twenty-four new Covid-19 cases have been registered. Twenty-three patients have recovered. The epidemiological situation remains tense and difficult," Usenbayev said.

The overall number of Covid-19 cases in Uzbekistan currently stands at 2,266 after 49 new coronavirus cases have been identified in the past 24 hours, the country's Health Ministry said on Thursday. Another 55 people have recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of such recoveries to 1,556. More than 50,000 people are currently under quarantine in the country. Ten fatal cases have already been recorded (no new coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours).

Eighty-six new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in Tajikistan, bringing the nationwide tally to 379, the country's Heath Ministry said. Tajikistan's Covid-19 death toll has reached eight as another three patients earlier diagnosed with coronavirus have died in the past 24 hours

According to the official reports, Turkmenistan has no coronavirus cases. Nonetheless, travel to the country is restricted, and quarantine measures have been implemented to keep off Covid-19.
