Covid-19 rate nears 100,000 in Russia, daily number of deaths tops 100 for first time - HQ

MOSCOW. April 29 (Interfax) - More than 5,800 new coronavirus cases were detected in Russia in the past 24 hours, bringing the total rate close to 100,000, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, Russia recorded 5,841 confirmed Covid-19 cases in 82 regions, including 2,624 active asymptomatic cases (44.9%)," the headquarters said.

Hence, Russia has identified a total of 99,399 coronavirus cases (+6.2%) in 85 regions, the headquarters said.

Moscow saw 2,220 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative rate to 50,646, it said.

One hundred and eight coronavirus patients died across Russia in the past 24 hours, including 67 in Moscow. The daily death rate for the first time exceeded 100. The death toll has reached 972 (the headquarters updated the death rate, and the office of Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova told the press that the death rate was adjusted by three cases for April 28).

As many as 1,830 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospitals in Russia over the past day, including 480 in Moscow. The total recovery rate has reached 10,286.
