Russia surpasses China by Covid-19 rate, number of confirmed diagnoses reaches 87,147 - HQ

MOSCOW. April 27 (Interfax) - Nearly 6,200 new Covid-19 cases have been identified in Russia in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative rate to 87,147; Russia has thus surpassed China in the global coronavirus table.

"Over the past day, Russia registered 6,198 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in 84 regions, including 2,693 (43.4%) patients identified as active contacts and asymptomatic cases," the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Monday.

Therefore, Russia has registered the cumulative number of 87,147 coronavirus cases (+7.7%) in 85 regions, the headquarters said. According to the John Hopkins University, China has seen a total of 83,912 coronavirus cases by now.

Moscow detected 2,871 new coronavirus cases over the past day, bringing the total number of cases to 45,351, the headquarters said.

In all, 50 patients died of coronavirus across Russia, including 31 in Moscow, in the past 24 hours. The death toll has risen to 794. According to the headquarters' update and the explanations given to the press by the office of Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, the number of coronavirus deaths in Russia had been recalculated: the day before, on April 26, a total of 747 coronavirus deaths were reported in Russia, but the information was incorrect and the actual number was three cases smaller, 744. As a result, the death toll stands at 794, instead of 797 on Monday.

Besides, 579 patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery over the past day, including 349 in Moscow. As many as 7,346 coronavirus patients have recovered in Russia by now, the headquarters said.
