U.S. ambassador dubs Whelan case as problem in Russia-U.S. relations
MOSCOW. April 13 (Interfax) - The Paul Whelan case has negative implications for Russia-U.S. relations, U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan said.
"I came to Moscow with a charge from president Trump to improve the relationship between the United States and Russia, and I'm working hard on that. This is a problem in our relationship, it's a serious problem," Sullivan told the press on Monday.
In his words, "the way Paul has been treated, it's [...] shameful."
"I'm hopeful that senior officials in the Russian government will accord Paul a fair judicial process, get him the medical treatment he needs, and at a minimum let him call his parents," he said.
