Rospotrebnadzor scientists develop high-accuracy Covid-19 diagnostic test

MOSCOW. March 31 (Interfax) - The Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Russian health and consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has developed a new set of reagents necessary to identify Covid-19, Rospotrebnadzor said on its website on Tuesday.

"A diagnostic test kit successfully underwent clinical trials and was registered on March 25, 2020 for use in the Russian Federation (Marketing Authorization for Medical Product No.RZN 2014/1987). The new test meets all present-day requirements for responsivity and specificity and makes it possible not only to identify SARS-Cov-2 in one test, but also differentiate it from other SARS-Cov-family viruses such as MERS-Cov (Middle East respiratory syndrome)," it said.

Large-scale testing is one of the crucial factors that help stem the further spread of the infection, it said.

"Performing coronavirus tests among a large number of people will help effectively identify the disease at early stages, as well as spot people who carry this infection, but do not have any symptoms and timely isolate them," it said.
