Ashgabat favors diversification of export pipelines

ASHGABAT. June 10 (Interfax) - Turkmenistan seeks to diversify the routes of shipping its energy, Turkmen Oil Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Bairamgeldy Nedirov said.

"Turkmenistan, as an energy producer with large reserves, is interested in ensuring secure and stable transportation of its energy in various directions," Nedirov said at a workshop on the pipeline transport organized with support of the U.S. Department of Energy, ExxonMobile, Chevron and others in Ashgabat on Wednesday.

Turkmenistan is considering several routes of delivering its energy such as: Turkmenistan-Russia and Turkmenistan-Iran along existing pipelines, Turkmenistan-China along a pipeline now under construction and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India under the project now discussed.

"Turkmenistan will not disregard other variants of exporting gas, including in the European direction," Nedirov said.
