CSEC boosts coal sales by 11.2 pct year-on-year in May

Shanghai. June 15. INTERFAX-CHINA - China Shenhua Energy Co. Ltd. (CSEC), the listed arm of the country's largest coal producer, raised its monthly coal sales volume by 11.2 percent year-on-year to 21.90 million tons in May, the company announced on June 15.

Of CSEC's total coal sales, exports sank by 60 percent year-on-year to 800,000 tons due to weak coal demand overseas and plunging international coal prices, according to the announcement.

The company generated 7.02 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity in May, representing a decline of 12.6 percent from the same period a year ago. It sold 6.49 billion kWh of electricity to China's state power grid system.

The economic downturn has hurt CSEC's business in the first few months of this year, but conditions will likely improve in the second half of the year, Huang Qing, secretary of the company's board of directors, said earlier this month.
