Cargo turnover in Russia's transport sector declines 18% in May
MOSCOW. June 19 (Interfax) - Cargo turnover in Russia's transportation sector declined 18% to 352.8 billion tonne-kilometers (tkm) in May 2009 compared to May 2008, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.
Turnover in the May declined 19% to 150.2 billion tkm for rail, down 21.4% to 14 billion tkm for automobile, down 2.7% to 6.7 billion tkm for sea, down 37.7% to 5.6 billion tkm for internal waters, and down 12.1% to 0.3 billion tkm for air.
Pipelines handled 176 billion tkm in May, 16.6% less.
