Ruble drops against bi-currency basket following losses on stock market

MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - The Russian ruble posted losses on Monday in MICEX trading as its position against the bi-currency basket slipped. The dollar and euro both posted gains in MICEX trading. The euro's losses in Forex trading helped bolster the U.S. dollar's position in Russia.

The dollar climbed 23.75 kopecks to finish at 31.3775 rubles/$1 while the euro went up by 5.5 kopecks to finish at 43.41 rubles/EUR1. The bi-currency basket went up by 15.5 kopecks to finish at 36.79 rubles.

The dollar's average weighted exchange rate on the MICEX went up 10.55 kopecks to 31.2593rubles/$1 in Today deals on Monday and by 12.57 kopecks to 31.2593 rubles/$1 in Tomorrow deals. Combined dollar trading on the MICEX amounted to $2.773 billion, of which $806.9 million were Today deals and $1.966 billion were Tomorrow deals.

The euro's average exchange rate decreased by 6.07 kopecks to 43.3322 rubles in Today deals and by 1.82 kopecks to 43.3707 rubles/EUR1 in Tomorrow deals. Total euro trading came to 168.9 million euro, of which 57.8 million euro were Today deals and 111.1 million euro were Tomorrow deals.

The overnight MosPrime Rate came to 7.5%, up 62 basis points for the day.
