Russia could introduce 25% duty on imports of GPS navigators

KAZAN. July 17 (Interfax) - The Russian government is considering a proposal on the introduction of a 25% duty on imports of GPS navigators, Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov told journalists on Friday.

This measure would be implemented to stimulate the production of Russia's GLONASS navigator system so that it can compete with the foreign GPS navigators, he said.

At present, there is no duty on imports of GPS navigators in Russia.
