China Mobile to focus on four main groups of applications for Mobile Market launch

Beijing. July 23. INTERFAX-CHINA - China Mobile will focus on four main groups of applications in the lead up to the launch of its Mobile Market application store in August, a China Mobile employee told Interfax on July 22.

A source from China Mobile's data service department, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the operator plans to have a wide range of applications centered on the four groups available for download on launch day, which are designed specifically for use on its own operating system (OS), open mobile system (OMS).

China Mobile has separated the applications into four groups internally. Group A consists of massively multiplayer online games, online videos and online mobile search applications and group B includes update applications, such as directory managers and anti-virus software. Group C has single player games and other applications linked with individual Internet accounts and group D includes navigation software and other applications that may or may not require mobile Internet access.

"We originally projected to kick off the store in September, but Guangdong Mobile, which is constructing the store, is ahead of schedule," the source said.

"As all the applications offered must be OMS compatible, OMS application testing is available for free to developers. Mobile Market will focus on OMS compatible applications in the beginning, but will open up to different OSs in the future," the source said.
