Shmatko plans to visit Iraq to discuss pre-war energy deals

KHABAROVSK. July 31 (Interfax) - Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko has said he plans to travel to Baghdad in August to discuss pre-war contracts in the energy sector.

"I plan to visit Baghdad in the first half of August," Shmatko told journalists in Khabarovsk on Friday.

Pre-war energy deals will be addressed during the trip, the minister said.

"A large delegation of energy sector officials will gather there [in Iraq]. The construction and modernization of energy generating capacities, as well as oil issues will be discussed," he added.
