AvtoVaz boosts Lada sales by 12.4% in July

MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax) - OJSC Avtovaz increased its sales of Lada automobiles by 12.4% in July in comparison with June, the company said in a statement.

For July 2009, AvtoVaz's sales subsidiaries on the Russian market sold 32,426 cars, which was an increase of 3,575 units from the previous month.

"In July, the highest level of sales were posted since the year's start for the Lada Priora. The increase in sales in July in comparison with June for the Lada Priora came to 25.9%," the company said in a statement.

Sales for Lada Kalina and Lada Samara models went up 8.2% and 10.1%, respectively.

According to the Association of European Businesses, AvtoVaz's sales for the first half decreased by 44% to 179,870 units, just short of the market's average drop of 49%. At the start of July, AvtoVaz's vehicle reserves came to 80,000 cars. Sales of Lada cars in June came to 28,851 units.

The enterprise's production line was shut down for a month in August.
