Russian stocks edge up slightly as MICEX tops 1100 pts

MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Russian stocks declined early on Tuesday due to the worsening situation on global stock and commodity markets, but managed to end the day in positive territory with the MICEX climbing above the 1100 mark.

The RTS index grew 0.61% to 1074.49 points on Tuesday, while the MICEX rose 0.29% to 1102.1 points.

RusHydro shares grew 7.1% on the MICEX, Federal Grid Company - 4.2%, Rostelecom - 2.7%, Severstal - 2%, MMC Norilsk Nickel - 1.5%, Rosneft - 1.1% and Polyus Gold - 0.9%.

VTB Bank stock declined 2.9% after the bank released worse-than-expected results for the first quarter of 2009.

Tatneft shares declined 1.9% on the MICEX, Gazprom Neft - 0.9%, MTS - 0.6% and Lukoil - 0.3%.

Asian and European stock indices also slid down on Tuesday, while oil prices edged down.

RTS Classic Market trading volume totaled $3.869 million on Friday, RTS Standard turnover was $211.095 million and MICEX volume was 61.124 billion rubles, led by Sberbank with 27.05 billion rubles.
