Russian stocks open lower on Wed; MICEX index declines to 1,095 pts

MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Russian stocks opened lower on Wednesday with the blue chips declining up to 1.2% on softening equities and commodities markets worldwide.

The MICEX index was down 0.65% to 1,094.93 points as of 10:32 a.m.

Surgutneftegas led decliners, down 1.2% in the first minutes, Lukoil was down 0.9%, Tatneft - down 0.9%, Gazprom Neft - down 0.9%, Sberbank Russia - down 0.9%, Gazprom - down 0.8%, Severstal - down 0.7%, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) - down 0.6%, Rosneft - down 0.6%, Polyus Gold - down 0.5%, MMC Norilsk Nickel - down 0.3% and RusHydro - down 0.1%.

Analysts said the Russian market was following Asian markets lower after U.S. markets closed just slightly higher on Tuesday and oil prices corrected downward. U.S. futures point to a lower open.
