Volkswagen's Russia sales fall 35% in July

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - Volkswagen saw sales in Russia decline 35% in July year-on-year to 3,252 cars, the company said in a statement.

Volkswagen's sales in Russia amounted to 3,292 cars in June and 5,033 in July 2008.

Volkswagen more than doubled its share of the Russian car market in January-July to 3%, the statement says.

Sales in January-July declined just 3.5% to 24,719 cars, one of the best results in the industry given that the overall Russian market contracted approximately 50% in the period.

The Passat and Jetta were Volkswagen's best sellers in Russia last month, with 763 and 762 sold respectively. The Tiguan came third at 570, followed by the Touareg with 374 and the Golf family with 554.
