Siemens delivers fifth Sapsan high-speed train to Russia

KALININGRAD. Aug 7 (Interfax) - German Siemens has delivered the fifth high-speed Sapsan train (Velaro RUS) to Russia.

The trains were offloaded at the rail ferry complex in Baltiisk on Thursday, Kaliningrad Railroad, a subsidiary of Russian Railways (RZD) , said in a press release.

"This is the fifth Sapsan train delivered on the ferry 'Vilnius' from Germany to Russia. Once customs formalities are completed, the Sapsan will be shipped on the rail ferry 'Baltiisk' to the port of Ust-Luga. The shipment is planned for August 10," the press release says.

RZD and Siemens signed the contract on delivery of eight Velaro RUS series trains in May 2006. The contract is worth 276 million euro. A 30-year technical servicing contract worth 354.1 million euro was signed in April 2007.

A first test run of the Sapsan was conducted in March 2009.
