Kazakh BTA Bank assets fall 12% in H1

ALMATY. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's BTA Bank saw assets decline 12% in the first half of 2009 to 2.566 trillion tenge, down from 2.915 trillion tenge at the beginning of the year.

Liabilities totaled 3.456 trillion tenge at the end of the six months, up from 2.498 trillion tenge.

BTA Bank had a net loss of 1.518 trillion tenge in the first half compared with a net profit of 16.117 billion tenge in the same period last year.

The controlling shareholder is the state in the form of the Samruk-Kazyna fund. Sberbank Russia is in talks to purchase the bank.
