Azerbaijan boosts oil, gas production 1.6% in Jan-July

BAKU. Aug 17 (Interfax) - Oil production in Azerbaijan increased 1.6% to 29.211 million tonnes in January-July 2009 compared to the same period of 2008, the State Statistics Committee told Interfax.

Oil production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) fields in the Caspian Sea grew 2.4% to 24.3 million tonnes in the seven months and accounted for 83.1% of total output in the country.

Gas production also rose 1.6% in the period to 13.855 billion cubic meters (bcm).

Associated gas from the ACG fields and natural gas from the Shah Deniz field accounted for 6.152 bcm of that total, up 25% from January-July 2008.

Azerbaijan increased oil production 4.6% to 44.46 million tonnes in 2008 and gas output 35.6% to 22.847 bcm.
