Cargo turnover in Kazakhstan declines 12.2% in Jan-July
ALMATY. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Cargo turnover in Kazakhstan totaled 182.282 billion tonne-kilometers in January-July 2009, down 12.2% from the same period of 2008, the State Statistics Agency said.
Rail-based cargo turnover declined 13.9% to 106.211 billion tonne-kilometers in the period.
Auto transport fell 9.5% to 28.531 billion tonne-kilometers. Cargo turnover through Kazakhstan's trunk pipelines declined 10.7% to 46.772 billion tonne-kilometers, sea-based cargo transport grew 200% to 709.8 million tonne-kilometers, river-based transport fell 7.9% to 27.5 million tonne-kilometers and aviation-based cargo transport shrank 16.6% to 29.8 million tonne-kilometers.
Passenger turnover edged up 0.1% to 67.709 billion passenger-kilometers in the seven months.
