RusHydro to revise 2009-2011 investment to include restoration of Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, fast tracking of Boguchanskaya HPP

MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax) - RusHydro intends to present a new investment program for 2009-2011 for review by the government and the company's board of directors, which would include the restoration of the Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant and the acceleration of the opening of the Boguchanskaya HPP , acting RusHydro CEO Vasily Zubakin said during a conference call.

"We are preparing an adjusted investment program for 2009-2011 factoring in the recovery of Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP and speeding up the Boguchanskaya HPP. The government and the board of directors could review this investment program in about a month," Zubakin said.

Power engineering equipment giant Power Machines has pledged to considerably accelerate the timeframe for preparing new equipment for the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP, he said.

Commenting on the restoration of the plant, Zubakin said that Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has called for financial and economic support to be provided to the plant.

RusHydro is holding talks with its partners on the fast-tracking of the construction of the Boguchanskaya HPP, he said. "We actually have five prepared power units for the Boguchanskaya HPP. And it turns out that the shortage of electricity in Siberia could be made up for sooner by launching the Boguchanskaya HPP," he said.

The accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP occurred on the morning of August 17. As a result of the accident, Siberia's energy balance lost 4.5 gigawatts of hydrogenerating capacity.
