Vimicro, Leadcore to develop TD-SCDMA-based mobile TV technologies

Shanghai. August 26. INTERFAX-CHINA - Nasdaq-listed Vimicro International Corp., a Beijing-based multimedia semiconductor and solutions provider, has teamed up with Leadcore Technology Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Datang Telecom Technology Holding Co. Ltd., to develop TD-SCDMA standard-compatible mobile TV technologies, Vimicro announced on Aug. 25.

Under the partnership, Vimicro will provide mobile multimedia technologies and solutions, including those related to mobile TV, to Leadcore, according to the same announcement.

Leadcore, a Datang Telecom subsidiary that provides TD-SCDMA chips and solutions, has supplied chips to over 50 percent of China Mobile's TD-SCDMA handset stock, according to the same announcement.

Vimicro reported its sixth consecutive quarterly loss in the second quarter of 2009 on Aug. 24, with net loss amounting to $8.4 million as of the end of June 2009. Correspondingly, revenues decreased by 19 percent to $18.7 million within the same period.

The company plans to expand its research and development capacity in order to make full use of the opportunities presented by China's 3G boom. It predicted that revenues for the third quarter of 2009 will reach between $18 and $20 million.
