Russia boosts gold mine production 22% in 7 mths

MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Russia mined 89.19 tonnes of gold in January-July 2009, up 21.7% year-on-year, the Russian Gold Producers' Union said.

The Chukotka, Amur and Kamchatka regions generated most of the growth in mine output in the seven months Major production growth was achieved by Kinross Gold's Kupol mine and Lev Leviev's Karalveem mine in Chukotka; by Peter Hambro Mining's Pioneer mine and High River Gold's Berezitivoye mine in the Amur region; and by KamGold's Aginskoye field in the Kamchatka territory.

Gold mine production grew 1.645 tonnes year-on-year in July alone: vein gold production rose more than 2 tonnes, while placer gold production fell approximately 0.5 tonnes.
