Coalmine blast kills 35 in Henan

Shanghai. September 8. INTERFAX-CHINA - A coalmine explosion in Henan Province on Sept. 8 left 35 miners dead and 44 others trapped, state media reported.

The explosion occurred at the Xinhua No. 4 Coalmine in Pingdingshan City in Henan Province. According to Xinhua news agency, 93 miners were in the mine at the time of the explosion, and 14 managed to escape. The rescue is still underway.

The coalmine, which has 150,000 tons of annual production capacity, is owned by the county government.
