China's refined copper output rises 5.4 pct year-on-year in first eight months of 2009
Shanghai. September 11. INTERFAX-CHINA - China produced 2.65 million tons of refined copper in the first eight months of 2009, up 5.4 percent from the same period in 2008, according to figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Sept. 11.
The country's refined copper output in August alone stood at 364,900 tons, up 8.7 percent from the previous month.
China's refined lead, zinc, and nickel production from January to August also saw year-on-year increases, up 22.9 percent, 4.2 percent, and 12.1 percent respectively to 2.50 million tons, 2.70 million tons, and 137,170 tons.
However, primary aluminum production dropped by 9.5 percent year-on-year to 7.87 million tons during the eight-month period. The country's alumina output also fell by 6.6 percent to 14.39 million tons.
Copper concentrate output increased by 6.3 percent on an annual basis to 647,500 tons from January to August.
The country's copper and aluminum product output grew by 17.3 percent and 8.1 percent year-on-year respectively during the first eight months of the year to 6.15 million tons and 10.85 million tons.
