Russia supports idea of forming free trade zone with EFTA - Medvedev

BERN. Sept 21 (Interfax) - Russia shares Switzerland's desire to form a free trade zone involving Russia and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), President Dmitry Medvedev has said.

Russia could become "one of the largest markets for Swiss products," Medvedev told Russian and Swiss businessmen in Bern.

"We share our Swiss partners' desire to form a free trade zone between Russia and the EFTA," he said.

This task is feasible also taking into account the formation of a customs union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, he said.

"I think this task is quite feasible, even taking into account the recently emerged customs union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. We have agreed to act parallel. We are forming this union on the one hand and on the other we will shape the groundwork for signing the agreement on a free trade zone," Medvedev said.

"We will obviously come to a final result when Russia joins the World Trade Organization," the president said.
