Hebei provincial govt clamping down on heavy metal polluters

Shanghai. September 30. INTERFAX-CHINA - The Environmental Protection Bureau of Hebei Province is carrying out checks on local producers of lead, mercury, cadmium, chrome, and arsenic in order to evaluate their environmental impact from Sept. 25 to Oct. 25, the bureau announced on Sept. 28.

According to the announcement, the provincial government will suspend operations of any heavy metals producing enterprise in Hebei Province that severely pollutes the local environment. Furthermore, enterprises that have started construction work on facilities or that operate facilities without proper approval from the bureau will also face immediate suspension.

In addition, local enterprises that use lead, mercury, cadmium, chrome, and arsenic as raw materials for production are also subject to checks.
