ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih sees roll output plummet 30.9% in 9 mths

KYIV. Oct 1 (Interfax) - ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih (formerly Kryvorizhstal), Ukraine's biggest steel producer, reduced finished roll production tentatively 30.9% year-on-year to 3.221 million tonnes in January-September, the company told Interfax.

Crude steel production fell 35.7% to 3.520 million tonnes, pig iron - 37.5% to 3.083 million tonnes and sinter - 32.5% to 5.532 million tonnes.

The plant produced 275,000 tonnes of roll, 252,000 tonnes of steel and 219,000 tonnes of pig iron in September.

In the nine months, the plant cut coke production 19.4% year-on-year to 1.733 million tonnes, including 108,000 tonnes in September. Iron ore concentrate production fell 22.7% to 5.039 million tonnes (578,000 tonnes) and crude iron ore production fell 31.2% to 970,000 tonnes (100,000 tonnes).

ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih specializes in long products, in particular rebar and wire rod. It reduced commercial roll production 23.9% to 5.632 million tonnes in 2008.
