List of parties responsible Sayano-Shushenskaya accident could be expanded

MOSCOW. Oct 5 (Interfax) - The authorities' investigation into the tragedy at Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) is continuing and the list of parties legally responsible for August's accident could be expanded, the head of Rostekhnadzor, Nikolai Kutin, said.

"The corresponding authoritative bodies are continuing a multi-sided investigation of the tragedy that took place at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP," Kutin told journalists on Monday.

"The main task is an impartial and objective investigation of the incident and determining the parties that bear legal responsibility for the tragedy at the HPP," he said. Kutin added that these are parties that held operational oversight for power systems operations and equipment usage.

"Work is still far from complete," Kutin said, adding: "The list of those responsible could be expanded."

The Main Investigative Department of the Russian Prosecutor's Investigative Committee Monday said it would investigate the HPP disaster.
