Russia boosts non-CIS steel exports 29% in Jan-Aug

MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Russia boosted steel exports to countries outside the CIS 29% to 5.56 million tonnes of steel in January-August 2009, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said, citing provisional data.

But non-CIS exports fell 18.1% to 9 million tonnes for iron and non-alloyed steel semis, 23.2% to 2.5 million tonnes for pig iron and 13.7% to 432,000 tonnes for ferroalloys.

Ferrous exports to the CIS fell 32.1% to 851,000 tonnes, including declined of 26% to 71,300 tonnes for iron and non-alloyed steel semis and 51.9% to 251,200 tonnes for flat iron and non-alloyed steel products.

Ferrous imports declined 46.3% to 2.1 million tonnes.
