China's electronics industry revenues up 1.11 pct in first eight months of 2009
Shanghai. October 12. INTERFAX-CHINA - Total revenues of China's electronic information industry inched up 1.11 percent year-on-year to RMB 3.66 trillion ($535.01 billion) in the first eight months of 2009, according to statistics released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Oct.12.
Electronic information product manufacturing sector revenues fell 2 percent year-on-year to RMB 3.07 trillion ($448.79) over the period, but software sector revenues were able to offset the decline by growing 21 percent year-on-year to RMB 589.1 billion ($86.23 billion), according to the MIIT.
In the first eight months of 2009, China manufactured 370.77 million handsets and 27.17 billion sets of integrated circuits, down by 3.2 percent and 17 percent year-on-year, respectively. Personal computer production, however, grew by 16.2 percent year-on-year to 105.1 million units, according to the MIIT.
The country produced telecommunication base stations capable of supporting 23.43 million channels during the first eight months of the year, skyrocketing by 147.4 percent from the same period last year, according to the MIIT. The increase was driven by the acceleration of China's 3G network rollout.
From January to August, total investment in China's electronic information sector reached RMB 237.14 billion ($34.71 billion), up 15.8 percent year-on-year.
Foreign-owned electronic information product manufacturers underperformed compared with their wholly Chinese-owned counterparts, both state and privately run. Foreign-owned manufacturers also lagged behind Sino-foreign joint ventures in terms of revenue growth in the first eight months of 2009, according to the MIIT.
