Dollar falls to new 2009 low against ruble

MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax) - The dollar fell 3 kopecks to a new 2009 low of 29.4675-29.52 rubles/$1 in the first few minutes of trading on the MICEX exchange.

This is 10 kopecks below today's official rate.

The euro was unchanged at 43.6 rubless/EUR1. The very first deal was for EUR 3,000, causing the currency to plummet a whole ruble from yesterday's closing, but experts said this was not a market deal and probably an error committed by a dealer, and the rate soon returned to normal.

The ruble strengthened 5 kopecks against the dual currency basket ($0.55 and EUR 0.45) to 35.8-35.85 rubles.

The Interfax Center for Economic Analysis said the ruble continues to strengthen against the dollar for now on the back of high oil prices, but that short-term indicators suggest the currency basket could stop falling and that the ruble might correct down.
