China Mobile to launch 2010 World Expo RFID SIM card on Nov. 1

Beijing. October 14. INTERFAX-CHINA - China Mobile Communications Corp. (China Mobile) will launch a RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) SIM card on Nov. 1 in partnership with the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, enabling China Mobile users to purchase World Expo tickets and other related items with their handsets, according to an Oct. 13 joint announcement.

According to the announcement, the RFID SIM card will enable users to pay for expo items by "swiping" their handsets to deduct money from prepaid mobile accounts.

The RFID SIM card will be available for purchase in China Mobile service centers in Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing municipalities; Jilin, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hubei and Guangdong provinces and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the announcement said.

The China Mobile 2010 World Expo RFID SIM card is the first of its kind utilizing RFID technology provided by the operator for individual users, although it currently offers a number of RFID applications for industrial use.

The retail price of the RFID SIM card has not yet been released by China Mobile.
