China Telecom to upgrade 3G network in major cities in early 2010

Beijing. October 16. INTERFAX-CHINA - China Telecommunications Corp. Ltd. (China Telecom) plans to upgrade its current CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A network to CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision B in major cities in early 2010, a China Telecom employee told Interfax on Oct. 16.

China Telecom will begin conducting outdoor tests on its upgraded Rev. B network in first and second tier cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shenzhen in November, said the China Telecom source, who asked to remain unidentified.

The Rev. B network will have the capacity to provide download speeds of up to 9.3 Megabits per second (Mbps), three times faster than that of the peak speed of 3.1 Mbps provided by the current Rev. A network.

China Telecom conducted indoor tests of the Rev. B network in July, with a number of major CDMA2000 equipment and chipset manufacturers participating, the source said.
