Crisis left 731,000 unemployed in Russia

MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax) - According to the Russian Health and Social Development Ministry, over 730,000 people have lost their jobs in Russia since the beginning of the economic crisis, and only one fourth of them have managed to find a new job.

"Since the beginning of October 2008, the total number of layoffs has reached 731,002. Of these people, 200,376 have managed to find jobs, and 113,845 people found jobs in the organizations from which they were laid off," the ministry press service reported, citing a recent study of the situation on the labor market in the Russian regions conducted by the Health and Social Development Ministry.
