Central Bank intervention snaps ruble winning streak against dollar

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - The dollar rose against the ruble at the open of trading on the MICEX currency exchange on Wednesday following the Central Bank's intervention on Tuesday.

The dollar opened trading in "tom" contracts at 29.2225 rubles/$1, approximately 8 kopecks above the close on Tuesday and 3 kopecks above the Central Bank's exchange rate.

The euro opened at 43.62 rubles/1 euro, 5-10 kopecks below the previous close.

The bicurrency basket ($0.55 and 0.45 euro) was at 35.68 rubles, the same as the previous close.

The Interfax Center for Economic Analysis said the dollar gained as the euro declined in forex trading. Central Bank First Deputy Chairman Alexei Ulyukayev said the Central Bank purchased just under $1.5 billion on the currency exchange yesterday.
