Gazprom, Mitsui chiefs discuss new LNG projects
MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - The CEOs of Gazprom and Mitsui, Alexei Miller and Masami Iijima, have discussed the outlook for cooperation under the Eastern Gas Program.
They discussed the possibility of cooperation in implementing other projects in gas processing and gas chemicals in Russia, including LNG production, Gazprom reported.
They gave a positive assessment to their partnership in the Sakhalin-2 project and said Russian LNG deliveries to Japan diversify energy supplies and make an important contribution to ensuring energy security.
Mitsui owns 12.5% in Sakhalin Energy, the operator of the Sakhalin-2 project, which launched operation of Russia's first LNG plant in February 2009. It sent the first tanker loaded with Russian LNG to Japan in April 2009.
