EU wants confirmation of Ukraine
BRUSSELS. Nov 6 (Interfax) - The European Commission is waiting for the confirmation of the Ukrainian payment for the Russian gas imported in October.
We would like to get confirmation from Ukraine, Commission spokeswoman Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen told journalists in Brussels.
The Commission is closely watching the situation to avoid the risk of a dispute, Hansen said
The Commission has not received from Kyiv any additional request to solve the problem, she said.
The Commission was notified by Ukraine that it has already pumped 25 billion cubic meters of gas into its underground gas storage facilities, which is enough for the winter season, said EC spokesman Mark Grey.
The Commission is aware of the payment of $480 million but expects its confirmation, he also said.
National joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy paid to Gazprom for the gas imported in October, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said on Friday. "Today we paid another $500 million to Russia," she said in Mariupol, Donetsk region, on Friday.
