Work to provide heated area for Sayano-Shushenskaya generator room completed

KRASNOYARSK. Nov 9 (Interfax) - Work to restore the heated space at the stricken Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydroelectric Station has been completed, RusHydro reported.

The project had been a priority as winter weather approaches.

"Now weather conditions will not be an obstacle to performing other restoration work at the generator room. Thus, one of the main priorities for preparing Sayano-Shushenskaya for the 2009-2010 fall and winter season has been completed," the statement says.

It was reported earlier that contractor Stalmontazh had until November 11 to complete the job.

Stalmontazh used 2,000 square meters of fiber glass, 1,800 cubic meters of wall panels over 5,000 cubic meters of stainless steel sheet and other materials to complete the work.

The next stage in restoring the hydropower plant will be installation of temporary housings for hydropower units N5 and N6, which were the least damaged in the August 17 accident. The housings will provide additional heat insulation and prevent ongoing construction work from fouling the units.
